September meeting To feature report On Watauga River
Dr. Phil Bettoli will present
his report on "Watauga River Reproduction Work" at our meeting, Thursday,
Sept. 14 at the House of Ribs, 3100 North Roan Street, in Johnson City.
Bettoli, a faculty member at
Tennessee Technological University in Crossville, has been study trout
reproduction in the Watauga for several years. As usual, the meeting
will begin at 7 p.m. and the fly-tying demonstration at 6:15. The fly-of-the-month
is a surprise and so is the mystery tier.
Come and bring a friend or two. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by a brief business meeting at 7:00.

Habera's wild trout report Highlight of August meeting
Jim Habera, TWRA biologist, presented
his annual Wild Trout report at our August meeting, and as usual, it was
filled with interesting and pertinent information on the wild trout population
in Upper East Tennessee. Habera's great presentations and his ability to
answer questions about the wild trout population is always greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jim.
Only 16 Chapter members were among the approximately 60 people who registered for the South Holston Lake and River Clean-up last month. Despite the low turnout, 40 tires, a hot-water heater, and 5 tons of trash were collected during the clean-up.
Set aside Saturday, Sept. 16 from
9 a.m. to noon to bring family and friends for the 5th annual Todd Burleson
Memorial Stream Clean-up on Roan Mountain. The Citizens of Roan Mountain
Community join the Overmountain Chapter in its sponsorship this year.
This is a great opportunity to
combine a stream-clean-up and family outing as we'll enjoy lunch together
at the picnic shelter after the clean-up. Even if, for some reason you
can't work in the clean-up, come and enjoy the food and fellowship with
us. . Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share at lunch; the Chapter
will furnish drinks and watermelon.
We'll assemble at the Burbank
Freewill Baptist Church Be sure to dress appropriately, bring boots,
insect repellant, sun screen, camera, and family and friends. TVA will
provide trash bags and gloves.
Please don't forget to put this
on your calendar; we really need your help.
If you need further information, call
Bill Beazell at 239-6991 or Mike Widener at 854-0991.
The September meeting will be
the occasion for nominating and electing new board members and officers.
You'll want to be present for this important business item.
