MINUTES OF TU BOARD MEETING ON AUGUST 8, 2002
1. JIM DAVIS INFORMED THE BOARD THAT HE HAD BEEN UNABLE TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY
PERSONS TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP FOR THE OVERMOUNTAIN CHAPTER OF TU FOR THE COMING
2002--2003 YEAR. HE HAD INVESTIGATED WHAT ACTIONS THE BOARD COULD TAKE TO CLOSE
THE CHAPTER AND HAD FOUND THAT THERE ARE NO ESTABLISHED PROCEDURES FOR DOING
SO. AFTER EXTENDED DISCUSSION, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION
WAS FOR THE CHAPTER TO DISCONTINUE REGULAR ACTIVITIES EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETINGS, NEWSLETTERS, UP-DATES
OF THE WEB SITE, ETC. PENDING IDENTIFICATION OF LEADERSHIP TO REACTIVATE THE
CHAPTER. IT WAS AGREED THAT THE CURRENT OFFICERS WOULD REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL
APRIL 1, 2OO3 TO HANDLE OVERSIGHT OF ONGOING ACTIVITIES SUCH AS THE BUFFALOE
VALLEY EMBRACE-A-STREAM GRANT, THE TODD BURLESON STREAM CLEAN UP AND THE DISPOSITION
OF CHAPTER ASSETS PRIOR TO CLOSING THE CHAPTER. IF THERE ARE MATTERS THAT NEED
TO BE HANDLED, JIM WILL CONVENE THE NECESSARY OFFICERS OR OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO
TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION.
Treasurer's Report
The chapter's bank account balance is $1,829.20
Todd Burleson Memorial Roan Mountain Cleanup
The cleanup will be held on September 28 from 9 until noon followed with a picnic. The location will be the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church on Roan Mountain.
Follow the white Burleson cleanup signs to Jack's Grocery, about one mile past
entrance to Roan Mountain State Park. Turn left at Jack's on Burbank Road. Proceed
a short distance to church on the right.
Joe Byrd, an avid trout fisherman and professional builder of fine and beautiful
bamboo fly rods, has announced that he has withdrawn his offer to build a bamboo
rod for the door prize since the chapter is now inactive
South Holston Cleanup Success
The cleanup was a huge success with 900 people removing 50 tons of trash. At Bluff City and the weir dam, 60 people registered, compared with 30 last year. The river roads and banks show continued improvement.
The Overmountain chapter's section of the TVA kiosk at the weir dam has been improved in presentation and location and now is protected from the sun and is easier to read.
At Observation Knob, 500 enjoyed the Jacob's Creek Job Corps picnic while being entertained with music. Approximately 100 door prizes were awarded.
